Hellooooo everyone, and a special hi, kia ora, hello to my paid sponsor readers - love you, thank you for the support!
If you’re new to reading this - Hi there! I’m Charlotte, a kiwi gal living in Hamilton, NZ - Grab a Slice is a little self-indulgent corner of the internet where I round up all sorts of stories, podcasts, music, films, games and articles from the week that was… and WHAT a week, or 2ish weeks it’s been!?
I mean, where do I even start? Roe vs Wade? Work/life burnout at an all-time high? International flights making me consider the organ donor market? Wanting to sleep forever? Gas and continuously rising food/living costs? Christ on a cross… let’s get started before I hurt someone. Jokes. But no joke, but jokes.
📅 Here’s what I’m putting down this week…
Honestly, I’m in the mood for anything in the comedy genre right now… so, if you’re in the mood for some big 1980s energy then I rewatched ‘Heathers’ (1989). The hairstyling, makeup and shoulder are outstanding and if you’re a fan of Winona Ryder then check it out! It was one of her first films (sandwiched between Beetlejuice and before Edward Scissorhands) and while it’s completely ridiculous, it was light-hearted and kept my ‘sad.tired.angry at the world’ brain focused for a bit!
I love anime… do you love anime? Not all anime = is the same, but I have found myself yearning to reconnect with shows I loved watching in my childhood - ‘Sailor Moon’ to be exact. So, I’ve been hanging out on Crunchy Roll watching the original Sailor Moon series as well as a show I hadn’t seen before ‘Erased’. It’s a really melancholic story about a guy with the ability to go back in time and honestly - it was a beautifully told story, and perfectly showcased that classic, tragic and dramatic style our Japanese friends are so well known for (they always have the best soundtracks too).
Okay, so long story short… I watched the recent Jennifer Lopez documentary on Netflix about her lead-up to playing at the Super Bowl. This then lead me to the film she helped produced ‘Hustlers’ (2019). I LOVED IT! As I said to Logan, “I love me a stripper movie” and this didn’t disappoint! It’s got JLo doing her thing, as well as Lizzo and Cardi B. Special shout out to Constance Wu who plays Destiny and did an outstanding job. Here for it, because who doesn’t wanna see JLo rolling around on the floor half-naked and covered in money?! On Netflix, go watch!
We all know what the general gist is regarding Roe vs Wade - but if you have more questions (which is understandable) and want to know how you can help or need a little more info - this video below is quite a good explainer.

If you’ve been opening up and reading this little slice of goodness each week, then you’ll know that I often end up talking about burnout culture, work stress, work-life balance, the whole sh-bang! It’s a topic that gets me all fired up and chatty.
Anyways, I read through this *extremely long-form* article about millennial burnout and found a term I hadn’t come across before. It’s called ‘errand paralysis’, and honestly, I feel a whole other level of ‘seen’ right now. It’s not secret that so many of us are exhausted, and tired but it’s a different kind of tiredness. It’s like, bone-marrow-deep exhaustion. It’s a level of worn-out that many of us can’t even describe. So much of this article made sense to me and if you have the time, give it a read. There’s a reason Beyonce is singin’ about it.
“You feel burnout when you’ve exhausted all your internal resources, yet cannot free yourself of the nervous compulsion to go on regardless.” - Josh Cohen
As I’ve previously mentioned, I have been desperately seeking anything that makes me feel uplifted this week so I’ve been cranking a Parris Goebel playlist I found on Spotify and saved - it’s so good for having a desk boogie, or just full-on twerk session too. 🎧 Linked below:
