The Creator, Wine & A Disturbing Podcast: Issue 51
Your dose of my media highlights, always served fresh.
💖 I'm Charlotte, a New Zealand native who writes exactly as she speaks. I'm a writer who loves desserts, and gaming and has a passion for fashion and food. My aim with this newsletter is to provide you with a light-hearted and enjoyable read, where you might even discover something new to watch, read, or enjoy.
Hello, hi, greetings, Kia Ora, It’s me again, just dropping into your inbox with what I’ve been consuming lately.
It’s been a hot minute, okay, I know, and I’m sorry. After NZ Fashion Week I admit I felt somewhat burnt out and if I’m super honest, felt very little creativity.
I write when I’m inspired, and when I genuinely enjoy something and want to share it. This is why there was an influx of content, and then it dried up like the Sahara.
Anywho, I’m feeling that calling again - so let’s get into it.
You know my rules, I’ll share the stuff I liked, but there are no spoilers.
I’ve seen a couple of films recently, you know I love nestling down with horror films, thrillers and playing detective with true crime etc. So excuse the theme, but it is Halloween month after all.
The Creator - is incredible, strikingly beautiful and a must-watch if you have an interest in alternate realities, robots, tech, AI etc.
The Exorcist: Believer - I’m glad I saw this film, especially as it has some surprising moments that pay homage to the original 1973 film.
I also saw the recent doco on Netflix about the true story that inspired The Conjuring 3. It’s called The Devil On Trial. Super interesting watch and it’s one longer movie-length doco, vs. a bunch of episodes.
This article about work/life balance was a great read over at Chatty Chums, I particularly loved this excerpt.
“So often, we are made to feel guilty for prioritising our loved ones or taking time for ourselves. But guess what? It's perfectly okay to say “absolutely not” to that extra hour at the office and “say less” to grabbing a drink with your bestie. Life is too short to let work consume every waking moment. You can't pour from an empty fucking cup”.
I’m all about practising boundaries, especially as a solo business owner, so this topic will always resonate.
I heard someone once say “If you find watching true crime strangely calming, and feel like you can let go of your worries and stresses while watching or listening about someone else's traumatic experiences, then it may be time to take a deeper look at what might be going on beneath the surface of your own life and emotions that may need addressing”.
Now I’m paraphrasing with that quote above, but WOAH I felt triggered when I heard that for the first time. I understand that you’re watching something from the safety of your own space, and it’s those morbid curiosities coming into play. But like, I can fall asleep while watching a true crime doco. As always, it got me thinking and I found this article which was an insightful read.
Annnnd to conclude this section; I loved reading this super interesting Korero about a local Maori winemaker, who started a brand called Tawhiti.
Trigger Warning: Sexual Abuse/Suicide - So please stay away if you’re not in the mental spot to be absorbing this kind of media.
I was recommended this podcast called Dear Jane and found it an engrossing poddy to listen to while I was working (of all things). I binge-listened to the whole thing in one day. In a nutshell:
“Jane was 13 when she joined a church youth group. Within a year, she was in an intimate relationship with her mid-20s group leader. She shares her experience in Dear Jane, a limited series podcast.”
Have a fabulous rest of your week.
