Passion Tax, Griff & Karma: Issue 60
Writing this from the hard, uncomfortable airport chairs while on my way to Dunedin.
I'm Charlotte, and I write like I speak. Friends often ask me for recommendations on books, films, and podcasts, so I created Grab a Slice to share suggestions and help others discover new favourites.
Everyone I've spoken to lately is so tired, exhausted and just trying to make it through the final winter days here in Aotearoa. I’m with them. Winter has finally taken its toll and we’re all just ready for some warmer weather, floaty dresses, sun-drenched mornings, and for life to feel like it can slow down a little.
I’m currently watching these Melissa Court Shoes in Silver like a beady-eyed hawk! It’s unclear whether I have ever wanted something more in my life… but I think these strange, artsy little shoes might be it.
I was playing World of Warcraft last weekend and delightfully managed to make my way through the newest season of Emily in Paris (first half) and have a few of my favourite Emily looks so far, including this black and white striped catsuit with a beautiful makeup and hair look to match. I think I love her cropped hairstyle so much because I often wore my hair like this in my early twenties when I was deep in the pinup/vintage style community.
If you haven’t heard/watched anything from the Narcissism Doctor then please get right to it! I’m one of those people with a random degree from a different industry but often daydream about turning back the time dial and getting a Psych degree instead. It’s just all so interesting — the human brain is a work of art!
I hang off every word that clinical psychologist Dr. Ramani Durvasula says and she says ALOT.
My healing journey takes me down many rabbit holes - some purely out of curiosity and others just because they seem to make sense. I’ve been learning all about cyclic existence through Bhavachakra (or wheel of life) —- how fun is the art?
You know how some people mention Karma, and how it will come back to bite you. The idea of doing good things, to produce good karma. And Justin Timberlake famously sings ‘What goes around comes around?’ ~ Well, did you know there are 4 types of Karma? I didn’t - but it goes deeper than I ever thought!
I had a conversation with a stranger about the price we pay with Passion Tax. It was enlightening and I realised that I knew this was a thing that existed, but I didn’t have the label to name it.
I spent last Monday night seeing Griff play at the Powerstation in Auckland so naturally… I’m listening to her newest album, Vertigo! She was incredible to see live.
The top tracks on the album for me include Astronaut, Pillow in My Arms, Anything, and lastly, So Fast.
Also sharing the August mix as usual, there’s some good stuff in there this month and it’s always an eclectic bunch of tracks that don’t seem to make much sense. But what’s funny, is that I can usually tell exactly why that track has its place in this mix and where I first heard it or found out about it. So maybe, it’s not such a random mix at all?
I hope you’re having a wonderful week so far, I’m in Dunedin this week spending time with Mum which is why this is coming out a little later this week.
