Obi-Wan, Stranger Things & Investing: Issue 25
As fellow writer Alex Mathers says: Embrace your freakery
Psssst I’ve just shared my first paid piece of content for Grab a Slice Supporters recently - it’s a fun piece that I’ve hinted at for a while on Instagram stories (it’s all about dancing) 💃💃💃💃 It’s ready to read now!

Kia ora everyone,
Your friend Charlotte here, a very tired but motivated millennial who’s 100% entered her long-covid-brain era. The fog is real, and it’s thicc.
It’s started to get cold, which means I’m pulling out all my knitwear, and pants and starting to think of all the films I want to watch. There’s just something about crappy weather that always makes me want to curl up on the couch with a blanket and snacks to watch movies. On this topic, Logan and I were talking the other night and I realised he has never seen The Neverending Story films… any of them. So they are on the list. I just don’t understand how anyone has a worthwhile childhood without Atreyu and Falkor making an appearance? Beats me.
Ok, onward!
📅 This week I’m watching, reading and listening too…
I fucking love space, but not racist space ⭐☄️
Stars, planets, nebulas, black holes, moons, comets and potentially extra-terrestrial life… it goes on, just like space does. That’s my smooth segway into how I started watching the latest Disney Star Wars series about Obi-Wan this weekend. If you’re not interested in Star Wars, then skip this section but HOW GOOD IS IT? Unpopular opinion time, I loved Mandalorian, disliked Boba Fet (kept losing focus it just had no flow?), and now I’m back to enjoying Obi-Wan so much!!! Minus the Reva (Moses Ingram) racist messages being sent around. WTF seriously? Ewan Mcgregor jumped in on Twitter to share his thoughts.
How are you feeling about this series so far?
I haven’t binged Stranger Things… I’ve savoured it
I completely forgot about season 4 starting end of May, and I was supposed to go to Auckland for a party but decided to stay home in Kirikiriroa instead to immerse myself in the upside-down. Proud to say that’s what my 30’s look like. Very unlike me, but I’ve been watching an episode a day - drawing it out a bit, looking forward to seeing what happens each evening as I’m eating my dins. How cute is 80’s metalhead Eddie (Joseph Quinn) though? Love his denim vest, love him.
*AD BREAK* Grab a Slice is FREE to read but if you did want to join for $5 a month to show your support (and get access to bonus content only for paid subs) then please, go for it.
If you aren’t in a place to contribute financially, that’s okay – I don't want money to be a barrier to entry and this particular newsletter will always be available for free regardless 😊
Not toooo much to add to this section this week, but I did enjoy this piece by Alex Mathers about consistency. I don’t agree with every single point he’s made, but it’s a fun little read nonetheless
Stray links that I shall leave here for your perusal:
The June Playlist
Curated to my mood and updated almost daily! SPOILER, we’re in a Deep House mood okay. Linked below:
Before I chat about podcasts, I’m also plugging the 2019 album ‘Shadows’ by Cannons. All their music is super cool, but this album in particular is a vibe.
Women helping women invest. We love to see it.
Did you know, that only 16-24% of women invest globally, and even less so for women of colour? Also, 95% of money-based articles direct women to save, while 70% direct men to invest. Interesting right? What’s that you smell? It’s the patriarchy again.
So, I’m churning through Girls That Invest (Spotify and Apple Podcasts) and it’s helping me unravel the world of investing to make better decisions with my cha-ching. These gals are talented, Kiwis, and BBIPOC. They do a bloody good job of demystifying the world of investing.
It’s Friday, a long weekend is incoming and I’ve finished writing this up at 11 am. Woah. Go me. Enjoy!
Mā te wā (see you later) 👋 If you enjoy reading this newsletter please consider liking, sharing, commenting or subscribing if you want to support me a little further. Every little comment and share helps me get this out to others who might enjoy it (and those options are free). Yay!
