Bridgerton, Gremlins & Fine Fragrance: Issue 58
I wonder if these newsletters will ever have one specific theme?
I'm Charlotte, and I write like I speak. My friends always ask me for recommendations on books, films, and podcasts, so I created Grab a Slice to share suggestions and help others discover new favourites.
Do you frequently share reccys with someone? If so, why not share this newsletter with them as well?
Dearest Gentle Readers,
As you can probably tell, I finished the final episodes of Bridgerton Season 3 on Friday night, and it didn’t disappoint…
On with the show,
I’ve been utterly swept up in the bubble of Regency pastel outfits, artistic hairstyles and classical pop music of Bridgerton. Admittedly, it took me a while to get here, and there were a few starts and stops in the beginning - but I’m here now. She has arrived, a fully-fledged fan of everything Bridgerton and I can’t wait for everyone to watch the final season in full so that I can chat ALL ABOUT THAT LOVE-MAKING SCENE (it went on so long while filming, they broke the furniture). Catch the show on Netflix if you haven’t already started watching it.
I’ve got into the new season of MAFS NZ - and while I can’t say too much, it’s more for homework reasons this time (Logan and I are FINE). I’m *maybe* working with someone on the show, so I need to stay updated on the general landscape work *cough* work reasons! It’s proving to be fun background watching while I’m tapping on my computer each Monday/Tuesday.
This new trailer for ‘We Were Dangerous’ looks incredible… Coming to Aotearoa New Zealand cinemas on August 22 for the opening night of Whānau Mārama New Zealand International Film Festival!
How cool does this look?
Is anyone else as excited as I am for the new Fenty Haircare range? I know there are those out there with mixed feelings “omg not another celebrity beauty line” etc. But this is RHIANNA, and I don’t care, whatever this woman touches turns to gold!

I love this manifesto for how to birth art by Natasha Khan, (Bat for Lashes). If you don’t know who she is, go listen to her track, Daniel. Tis good!
This written history piece on Gremlins - I loved watching these little critters when I was younger and remember falling in love with wee Gizmo and the cute noises it would make. Gremlins is 40 years old this week!
You should know by now that I love perfume: zingy, uplifting, zesty, brightening citrus - but also dark, spiced, mossy woods and cooler scents. I’ve been fascinated by the world of scent for as long as I can remember, probably since my mum purchased my first ever ‘grown-up scent’ Dolce & Gabbana, Light Blue. Since then, I’ve collected fragrances and can never just settle on one, from my obsession with Katy Perry fragrances in my younger years, to the more procured and picky scents I choose now as an adult - I love them, and change them up depending on the day, season, outfit, mood or event I’m heading too.
Because of this, naturally, I went down a fragrance rabbit hole and found a Spotify playlist that contains a whole bunch of tracks played in various perfume advertisements from over the years (in case you too, are interested!).
#AD Disclaimer - The lovely team at Penguin Books sent me a copy of The Everything Guide, the new piece of work by Niki Bezzant.
I’m truly enjoying reading this and it’s filled with incredibly helpful information for women, but the kicker is, that it’s written in a way that feels like you and a good friend are having a chat. No bullshit, no ‘anti-aging’ tips, no ‘make yourself smaller’ tips, no ‘beat the signs of aging’ chat. I LOVE the language it uses, and the fact that it feels like such a great step in the direction we need to be going, especially when it comes to talking about and researching women’s health.
It’s mid-June already, WHAT? Tell me when it got so far through 2024… So many people I’ve chatted with this week are in disbelief at how bloody quickly this month is flowing by, so let’s make it worth every moment with good music to accompany it.
Here’s the June playlist! She’s heavy on DJ Goja… don’t ask, I know it can be cheesy, but it is, what it is.
I hope you’re having a wonderfully restful Sunday,
__Charlotte xx
